One input. One output.
A function assigns exactly one output to each input in its domain. means the output at input 3; it is not f multiplied by 3. The range consists of the outputs actually obtained.
Restrictions can come from algebra or from context. Division by zero is undefined; a real square root requires a non-negative radicand. A physical model might also restrict time to t ≥ 0. This vocabulary prepares you for senior Methods.
